My favorite part about attending an HBCU was the feeling of comradery and connection that I did not feel at the big university I attended for my first 2 years. Also, the class sizes at the HBCU were small and intimate, which I realized was important for me and helped me to learn better. The instructors knew our names and actively worked to make sure each student received the attention they needed. The school community was actually quite diverse because it also had a strong commuter population. So during the day, we were able to have interactions with others that were different than the population of students that lived on campus. All of these things combined made my experience at an HBCU both memorable and highly worthwhile.
I was a transfer student. I chose KSU because my brother went there and he had a good experience. I was not having a good experience at the big 4-year university I attended for my first 2 years
