Borrow & Renew

Library material use

Overdue & Lost Policy

  • Overdue circulating material: No daily fines for late materials when using renewals.
    • However, students with long overdue materials may not check out additional books and a block on the student's CCBC account totaling the replacement cost of the overdue materials(s) may occur. See below for details.
    • If another student/library user places a Hold on a book, the student cannot renew and the existing Due Date must be observed. You will get an email to your CCBC account informing you of this.
  • Overdue reserve material: $8.00 per day, per item.

CCBC Library Circulating Collection Overdue Policy in detail

Six weeks after checkout (without renewal) or on the renewed Due Date, a block will be placed on the student's library account and a fine for the cost of replacement is placed on a student's CCBC account with the total cost of replacement value of the overdue materials, plus a $10 processing fee. You will receive a phone call and an email to your CCBC student email account to inform you of this.

  • If this fine, in addition to any other fines a student might have, amounts to over $100, a block will be placed on the student's CCBC account, preventing them from applying for graduation, seeing grades, etc.

Resolution within six months of due date

If the book is returned within 6 months and no Holds have been placed on the overdue material, the hold may be removed from the student's library account and the student's CCBC account.

If the book is returned within 6 months and Holds have been placed on the overdue material, the student may pay partial replacement costs.

If the book cannot be returned, students may pay the replacement cost and processing fee at the library (cash/check) or with the Bursar's office. If a student would like to replace the book with a self-purchased replacement copy, the processing fee may be waived.

Resolution six months or more overdue

If a book is overdue for more than 6 months, it is considered lost. Students may pay the replacement cost and processing fee at the library (cash/check) or with the Bursar's office. Contact the library from which the book is borrowed to discuss possible return/payment compromises.
