Primary Sources: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Sources

Welcome to the CCBC Libraries Primary Source Research Guide
Read these documents, or watch the video, about primary, secondary and tertiary sources in order to gain a better understanding of how these sources are created, why that is important and examples of common types of each source.

Tertiary Sources

Tertiary Sources

These are sources that index, abstract, organize, compile, or digest other sources. Some reference materials and textbooks are considered tertiary sources when their main purpose is to list or summarize other information. Tertiary sources are usually not credited to a particular author.
