What is Dyspraxia?


Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a neurological condition that affects motor skill development and coordination. It can also impact planning, organization, and sometimes speech. Dyspraxia is not related to intelligence, but it can affect academic performance and daily life activities.

Understanding Dyspraxia

  • Key Characteristics:

    • Difficulty with fine motor skills (e.g., writing, using utensils)

    • Challenges with gross motor skills (e.g., running, jumping)

    • Poor spatial awareness and balance

    • Struggles with time management and organization

    • Speech and language differences (in some individuals)

  • Common Co-occurring Conditions:

    • ADHD

    • Dyslexia

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder

    • Sensory Processing Disorder
