Genealogy Research: Helpful Web Sites

A guide to sources on genealogy.

Google Books & Internet Archive

Google Books include nearly ten million volumes, with full-text searching capabilities.  Full-text searching means you can discover books using key words and phrases within the text, instead of having to rely on titles, authors, or subject terms as in library catalogs.

A good way to start your genealogical research is to plug in keywords and surnames.

  • surname
  • surname genealogy OR "family tree" ex: greenleaf genealogy OR "family tree"
  • surname born OR died OR married (vital record search)
  • maryland genealogy - for general information
