Always follow the instructions given by your professor regarding the citation of resources. You will find guides to help with a variety of citation styles on this page. To cite legal materials, use the legal citation guides below. To cite other resources, such as newspapers, academic journals, etc. use MLA 9, APA 7 or as directed by your professor.

Legal Citation Resources

Legal citations help the reader of a particular document find a document mentioned through a standard format and set of abbreviations. It is important to use the standard methods of citation, especially when submitting a filing to a court of law.

Citing the CFR and the FR

Proper citation format of the Code of Federal Regulations includes the year.

Proper citation format of the Federal Register includes the date it was published.
